Winners Farms Farm Story

Vendor Story

Proper treatment and animal welfare go hand in hand with the quality of products produced, and Winners Farms aims to keep this their top priority. The well-being of animals is a foundational principle at Winners Farm. Therefore, there’s no compromise on products’ quality while improving the health and welfare of animals and environmental stewardship.

For example, their cattle are fed locally-grown forages without the use of added hormones or steroids. They also believe in supporting local efforts and continuously strive to provide their community with the convenience of choosing healthier and local. Supporting local acts as a catalyst promoting the growth of our economy and sustainable environment. Winner Farms and DirectFood.store are fortunate to have collaborated to spread the same message.

Filming with Winner Farms has given us insights into their operation and how they implement best practices and procedures. In addition, we recently had the chance to interview Rebecca, owner at Winners Farms, to learn more about their day-to-day activities and what they prioritize as a business, i.e. to provide high-quality yet affordable food options for their community. So, have a read to learn more.

What do you produce at Winners Farms, and what products do you offer?

Winners Farms started in 1978 as a small dairy operation, and since then, has grown with the addition of a beef herd over the last two years. As a result, the Winners family is proud to produce local milk and high-quality beef products, including various cuts of steak, roasts, and other beef products.

What do you or your company stand for?

The Winners family believes that it is every person’s right to buy locally and strives to provide high-quality yet affordable food options for their community. In addition, we believe in being transparent and accountable to our consumers for our farming practices and are always willing to have those conversations with our customers.

What’s the story behind it all?

Winners Farms was started as a small dairy farm in 1978 by a young German couple, Inge and Hans. Through their tireless efforts, their children continued to grow the farm to today, now having four generations proud to continue farming. In 2019, the Winners family saw an opportunity to provide beef to family and friends, and the demand quickly grew from there. The entire Winners family is very involved in the day-to-day of the farm, and it isn’t uncommon to find the Winners family on an after-dinner walk through the fields or to see the kids checking on their favourite animals in the barns after school.

How do you feel about the Fraser Valley and about supporting local businesses?

Supporting local businesses is an integral part of our community’s well-being. The Fraser Valley is rich in opportunities, not only for agriculture but for all industries. The entire Winners family strives to support as locally as possible through restaurants, groceries and breweries, to name a few.

What does the future have in store?

The future for Winners is bright and full of opportunity. Currently, we are focusing on producing Wagyu beef and hoping to pilot this project in late 2022. We would also love the prospect of partnering with other local producers to create seasonal boxes or value-added products.

How has your relationship with your customers evolved over the years?

We have been very fortunate to grow our consumer base by selling beef products and were overwhelmed with the enthusiasm of our customers to learn about their food and get to know the people behind it. By partnering with DirectFood.store, we have broadened this customer base and share our story to connect and develop relationships with our consumers while promoting agriculture in the Fraser Valley.

We hope you enjoyed this Farm Story; stay tuned for more to come in the coming weeks!
